There is a general expectation that parental love and care alone, can ensure children’s development. However, sometimes children and young people may need specialised help to overcome difficulties during the growing up process . At Jigsaw we offer various therapeutic approaches like Psychotherapy, Play therapy, CBT and supportive counseling.
During the course of development, when difficulties occur children, adolescents and young people can all find it difficult to express their feelings in words. Emotions can frequently be expressed via difficult behavior. This can be a struggle not just for the young person themselves, but may also overwhelm family, friends and school, around them. . Their emotions may run high and can frequently be expressed through their behavior, they may struggle and feel overwhelmed. Additionally, they may exhibit behaviors they cannot control, and that they often don’t fully understand themselves. This can be an anxious time for those around them.
They may be experiencing:
- Intense anger and tantrums
- Low self-esteem
- Anxiety and constant worry
- Difficulties with food
- Sleeping difficulties
- Separation anxiety
- Relationship difficulties with parents, peers, siblings and friends
- School-based difficulties which may impact learning
- Adjustment difficulties to divorce and family break up
- Bereavement or loss.
At Jigsaw we carry out thoughtful and thorough assessments that may include State of Mind, Cognitive, and Psychiatric Assessments as needed. We believe that a good initial understanding is essential in planning for the right type of therapy as well as for treatment to be effective.
Parenting support, Family therapy or couple’s therapy might sometimes be offered along side a child’s counselling or psychotherapy.
